Deep Experience in Comfortable Dentistry Meet Dr. Daniel Larscheid, Sedation Dentist in Duluth

Dr. Daniel Larscheid has been offering sedation dentistry for over two decades to help anxious patients receive the care they need without stress or fear. No matter your reason for requesting sedation and no matter the procedure you’re undergoing, Dr. Dan will make your comfort a top priority.

Customized Sedation Options

Dr. Dan knows that every patient is different. He offers three safe, proven methods to keep you calm and comfortable: nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. Dr. Dan will help you choose the best type of sedation based on your anxiety level, health history, and the nature of your dental treatment.

Certified Team, Safe Protocols

Your safety is always our first concern. We work with a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) for deeper sedation cases and closely monitor your vitals throughout your procedure. Our Duluth dental office follows the highest standards for sedation delivery and emergency preparedness.

Three Options for Comfort Sedation Services at Woodland Family Dental

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Often called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is ideal for patients with mild anxiety or a sensitive gag reflex. You'll inhale the gas through a small nose mask, feel comfortable within minutes, and remain awake and responsive throughout your treatment with Dr. Dan. Best of all, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly, so you can drive yourself home afterward.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you have more moderate anxiety or are undergoing a longer dental procedure, oral conscious sedation may be right for you. Dr. Dan can prescribe a calming medication for you to take in pill form before your appointment. While you’ll stay awake, you’ll likely feel very drowsy and remember little to nothing afterward. A friend or family member will need to drive you to and from your visit.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is the deepest sedation option available at Woodland Family Dental. Administered through an IV line, this method works quickly and allows precise control of sedation levels throughout your procedure. It’s especially helpful for patients with severe dental phobias or those undergoing especially complex treatments, like full arch implant placement.

A Real Patient's Positive Experience With Sedation

“It was pure heaven, had a sedation procedure done here. You are 'asleep' while they do the procedure. How amazing is that! Couldn’t be more thankful!”

FAQ About Sedation Dentistry in Duluth, MN

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes! All types of sedation dentistry are extremely safe when administered by trained professionals like Dr. Larscheid and our certified nurse anesthetist. We review full medical history, monitor patients closely, and follow strict safety protocols during every procedure.

Will I be unconscious during my dental appointment?

Not necessarily. Nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation keep you awake but deeply relaxed. With IV sedation, many patients enter a “twilight sleep” and feel like they’ve slept through the procedure, even when they haven’t.

Who is a good candidate for dental sedation?

Sedation dentistry is a great option for patients with dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, difficulty sitting still, or complex oral health needs. If you’ve been putting off a visit to the dentist for any of these reasons, you are most likely an excellent candidate for dental sedation.
